There are also many other benefits for using images on your site.

  1. Texts can only hold your readers for certain time, to engage your readers completely you will need images.
  2. Site Time of your readers is based on both images and quality contents.
  3. Avoiding images may lead to high bounce rate.

Image Optimization Checklist

Using Relevant Images

One of the areas where many bloggers will fail is relevancy. Try to make sense with your images. Adding inappropriate images in your blog post will never help you in any situation. Actually, it creates a bad impression about your blog, which will affect your traffic moderately.

Alt Tag And SEO

Whenever you search about image optimization, Alt tag will be definitely included in that article.

Have you ever wondered why these ALT tags are included?

ALT is the short form of Alternate. ALT tags will be displayed as an alternate in the place where these images can’t be displayed and when images are not loaded due to the bad network. Nowadays most of the search engines follow text-based algorithms. They were not programmed for reading images and videos. So search engines use ALT tags to rank the images. If someone uses google images search, the images containing the ALT tags, related to the specified keyword will only rank higher.

Ensure that you include your target keyword in the ALT tag of the Images. The best way to write an ALT tag is making it short and descriptive.

Size Of The Image

The size of the image plays a major role in page load time. Always keep in mind that if your page loads more than 5 seconds, you are literally going to lose some heavy amount of visitors. There are many compression techniques which can be used to reduce your image size. Smush it is one of such tool, which can be used to enhance your site load time by compressing your image.

File Name

Like titles for posts, file name’s are crucial for images. Always use the keyword related name for your file. It will also make your image look relevant to your post. I would always recommend naming your files as your post titles with hyphens replacing spaces. So it is always good to do some Keyword research before writing your article.

Title Tags

Title tags are nothing but the text that is shown at the tool tip of the cursor when the image has hovered. Using appropriate title tag is also believed to increase your image SEO.

Image Hosting

Google has never revealed the algorithm behind ranking the images, but still many believe that hosting images in the same domain as the website will have a better effect on site SEO.

Number Of Images

The number of images you include in your blog post determines the load time of your page. Always include images at necessary places, but overflow your post with inappropriate high-quality images.

Watermarks

Watermarks can also help you drive traffic. When you include watermarks in your images, it makes you look more professional. As you all know,  it will have a added advantage that no one can use your images on their blogs. So, whenever you use your original images include watermarks.

Completing this checklist will make your post more SEO friendly thus will bring more traffic to your blog. If you know any other way to optimize images, ping us via our comment system.
